The Mindful Kids
And Adults Too!
"Smile, Breathe and Go Slowly"
Thich Nhat Hanh

Most children are, by nature, more mindful than adults.  They spend the moments of their lives being present without even knowing it.  This ability to be present from moment to moment allows them to feel and experience an emotion for what it is, let it move through them and then move on. Whatever they are feeling or thinking, they express it.  Children do not have the filters we have.  They scream and stomp when they are angry, cry uncontrollably when they are sad, explode with laughter and smiles when they are happy and pass out on the spot if they are tired no matter where they are!  As children grow, develop more self control, and learn the ways of society, through socialization and schooling, they begin to no longer express their feelings in quite the same way.  The problem here is that the children aren't simply changing their reactions to their emotions, but instead, they are pushing down the emotions and ignoring them.  This unawareness is what gets us into trouble.  We are no longer aware of how we are feeling, instead we are being triggered and then just reacting.

With mindfulness, we have a space to notice what we are feeling and then from there, make a choice on how to

respond to the situation rather than just a knee-jerk reaction. Children, because they are so present in this time of their life, will have an easier time learning the skills to help them remain present throughout their lives therefore allowing all feelings and emotions to come and go.

Mindful Kids provides young people with access to mindfulness skills and practices that can help them not only succeed, but also flourish in school and in their lives.
By learning and practicing these skills they will become better equipped to navigate through this world of ups and downs and be able to find comfort within themselves.  If we can help our children to become more grounded and centered at an early age, we may be able to prevent more extensive issues later down the line and empower them to lead more happy, healthy and productive lives.
